THE MASK OF THE SERPENT

And God shut down the Garden of Eden and sent Adam and Eve to labor for their food and sent the serpent to crawl on his belly.   And it came to pass that the descendants of Adam and Eve all did not heed the lesson taught by their ancestors, and only yearned that they might live in such a wonderful garden and not suffer, and the  descendants of the Serpent tried to appease them by giving them free food and shelter.  Yet these gifts were not enough: these gullible descendants of Adam and Eve cried out for more; and the Serpent's descendants who now had gained much experience in tempting the gullible, heard their cry.
And there arose among these Serpents, one who had fooled the gullible descendants of Adam and Eve  and they did elect him to the highest office in the land, and there he looked down upon them. This Serpent gathered other serpents  to support his free health care plan: and increase his popularity - and cause the gullible to admire him.
But the wise descendants of Adam and Eve saw the Serpent's deception and did expose him: whereupon, seeing his power begin to slip away,  the Serpent proposed amnesty for those who had entered the land illegally: these additional gullible would bring more power to the Serpent.  And the wise also saw this deception.
Whereupon, the Serpent became desperate: seeing his power slipping away, he proposed free education for all.  Yet the wise were not fooled. They knew nothing was free -- as Adam and Eve had learned when they ate the forbidden fruit -- for what the Serpent offers free always conceals a price.
Now the descendants of  Adam and Eve who had gained enough wisdom and knowledge to not be fooled by the Serpent's tricks, cried out for justice, so that the Serpent be destroyed. Yet, many among them were still fearful of the Serpent, because the Serpent was in them.  And the Serpent remained.
The goal of the Serpent is to glorify himself - to become like God: the Serpent always justifies his evil in the name of good.  Here is the serpent's dilemma:  He can never show his face as God, for God is all Good, and the Serpent can never be good, for that would undermine his evil, so he must cover his evil with the mask of good.  In God, there is no fear - God needs no mask.
The power of the Serpent will always be with us, yet the power of God will always destroy him.
